How MakeFigures handles account details, research descriptions and private generated figures.

Last updated: 2026-10-21

Information used to provide the service

MakeFigures stores the account details needed for sign-in, your figure descriptions, required labels, diagram options, task status, credit records and generated PNG files. Authorized operators can access task records when maintaining the service or investigating a problem.

Your figures are private by default. There is no public gallery or sharing feature for research projects in this version. Project details, previews and downloads require the owning account.

When you buy credits, we retain the order amount, currency, payment status, payment provider identifiers and credit grant records. The selected payment provider processes your checkout and receives the account email and order details needed for payment. Research descriptions and reference images are not included in checkout requests. We do not store your bank card details in the application database.

Generation providers

To generate an image, we send your diagram description, labels and visual instructions to third-party image generation services. These providers process the request under their own terms and retention policies. Making a project private within MakeFigures does not prevent this processing.

Do not submit patient information, identifying information or research that you are not authorized to send to these providers. We do not make an unverified promise that suppliers retain nothing or exclude every request from model training.

Storage and retention

Generated files are saved in private object storage. The expiry date shown in your figure history is the retention deadline for that project; the current default is 30 days. Projects are inaccessible after expiry, and a background job removes completed projects’ research text and private files. Unresolved provider submissions retain their descriptions until the existing request can be reconciled; they are not automatically replayed.

You can delete a completed figure from My figures before expiry. This removes access immediately and removes its research text. File deletion continues in the background and is retried if storage is unavailable. Deleting here does not delete copies already downloaded or independently retained by a generation provider.

We retain minimal task, cost and credit records needed to maintain account balances and investigate service problems. Deleted research text is removed from those task records. Backup and supplier retention must also be considered before sending sensitive material.

Browser drafts and account sessions

The input draft is stored in session storage within the current browser tab for up to one day. It is associated with your account after sign-in and is not restored into another account. Use Clear draft to remove it. Signing out through the site removes the saved draft and last-figure reference from that tab.

Essential authentication cookies keep you signed in, and a language cookie remembers your interface language. The site supports optional analytics; collection depends on the operator's configured services and consent settings. Research text, figure descriptions and file contents must not be sent as analytics events. Download clicks indicate an interaction, not proof that a file was saved.

Account questions and deletion requests

For account help, questions about data handling or account deletion requests, email support@makefigures.com. You do not need to sign in to contact us by email.

Signed-in users can contact the operator through account support to request help, ask about data handling or request account deletion. This notice describes the application behavior; the operator must keep supplier, hosting and contact details current before public launch.
